Even the most adventurous travelers would probably think twice about visiting Tunisia or Egypt right now. Still, there are many other places in the world that have experienced political unrest in the not-to-distant past that are rolling out the welcome mat to tourists. The same could be said for destinations that have struggled through natural disasters and just plain bad PR over the last few years.
Bing Travel’s latest slideshow, 12 Comeback Destinations, takes a closer look at some amazing countries and cities around the globe that have overcome – or are in the process of overcoming – some tough challenges. Yes, visiting could still be iffy, says writer Leif Pettersen, “but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Being among the first to arrive at a recovering destination often means few crowds, great deals and special moments.”
