Google Bourbon Update May 2005

The Google Bourbon update was considered one of the biggest updates ever by Google. It was introduced into the Web World in three phases. The aim of the Google Bourbon Update was to improve the quality of Google Search results by 3.5. The Bourbon update also penalized sites that used excessive pop ups.

In the first phase of the update there were 0.5 improvements to the quality of the search results. The remainder of the 3.0 improvements was carried out in two phases. The re-inclusions and improvements that were part of this update was the launch of several new data centers (DC) to report and discourage spam.

The Bourbon update had fixed the Google’s sandbox, which implies that newer websites were not easily given rankings as compared to older sites. Google believes that older sites are more trustworthy and newer sites should first prove that they are worthy of Google’s top rankings. From the perspective of the Search Engine Optimisation and Internet Marketing industry the Google Bourbon Update was not as disastrous as the Florida Update. ·

The new update was given the name Bourbon because of the Webmaster World Conference to be held in New Orleans.
